What we’ve been up to: a June check-in

Design and build construction company in Santa Barbara. Sunshine and sailboats.

Dear all,

We’re basically half way there.  Happy June 1st!

Today feels significant.  The holidays are approximately six months away now, and we’ve nearly made it through the first half of 2023.  Both of those things are happening right now at the same time.  I wanted to pause, reflect and appreciate that.  How has this year been for you so far?  I have a lot of queued topics right now that I want to blog about.  At the top of that list is a recorded interview with a Santa Barbara building community legend that I hope to create and share soon.  While those things are simmering I wanted to check in and remind you all that we are here, still designing, still building, and still appreciating all the work our people have been sending our way.

What we are up to:

A lot of our people in the community have realized that we are more than just a construction company.  The design, permitting and pre-construction work is a massive part of what we are doing these days.  Since we are in flow with active projects, and projects that are in the “blade sharpening” phase, our work is diverse, rewarding, and congruent in a lot of converging spaces.  We feel we are genuinely fulfilling a need that Santa Barbara has had which is a one stop shop Design Build model construction company where we just handle it all, in a city (and county!) that demands more than your average bear to build.

It has been a delight to help our clients navigate components of a project that can be incredibly frustrating, and often lead to projects going dead on the vine as we like to say.  We are here bringing the wind to the sails and keeping things moving and that feels good.

We have a new designer joining us at the end of June which is very exciting.  And we have a new office manager as well who has been an absolute DELIGHT to have around.  Our laborer and his partner had a baby last month, big congratulations to them.  May sleep find all three of you.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a photographer for smaller lower hanging fruit type photos.  If you know any talented photo/tech savvy people who are looking to pick up some photography work on an hourly basis please send them our way!

Also please do share our website and socials with anyone in the market.  Our most favorite way to build the business if by referral, and we rely on our past clients and people to keep things going.

You all have been doing a fantastic job of this, but just a friendly reminder from me, Emily, your little local hustler, to always keep Kellow Construction top of mind.

Being able to build this business with my husband in the city that has now grown  5 generations of my family has been an honor, a joy, and a lot of work.  It is truly a testament to this community.  I know it matters to a lot of people to help local people be able to make it in a place that seems to squeeze a lot of people out, so thank you for your continued support, your attention, and your referrals (!!!).

I will now hop off this email and reach out to my most legendary super secret surprise interviewee about scheduling his interview.  You can look forward to (hopefully next month) listening all about the history of building in Santa Barbara, and why things are the way they are, which is a little wacky right?  Stay tuned and MUCH love to everyone who reads along and supports the KC train.

That’s all folks,

Emily
