We are proud to announce Building Together!

The Building Together Program is Kellow Construction’s avenue through which we serve those most in need in our community. It’s something we plan and budget for every year.

Corporate success is much more deserved and valuable to communities when a company bakes into their business plan a way to uplift those who are the most vulnerable and in need. Not just a donation here and there, but an actual component to how a corporation approaches business planning and budgeting for their years ahead.

At Kellow Construction, we believe in providing service to our clients and our community. We are proud to give back by building projects that benefit those who need it most. How It Works

Every fall the entire Kellow Construction Team nominates local non-profits they want to support. The only requirement for nomination is that they must be based locally and can not be a national organization. Then as a group we vote between all the nominations and pick one non-profit to receive the Building Together Award for the following calendar year. We donate in kind services to organizations that need support with their buildings and maintenance.

We want to have as much impact as we can which is why we focus on partnering with one singular non profit per year instead of extending ourselves to many. This way we get to really know an org’s needs and are able to help on a deeper level that can hopefully extend beyond the year of the award.

In 2023 Storyteller Children’s Center was the recipient of the Building Together award. Storyteller Children’s Center is a local children’s center that serves families who meet the income qualification of being below the poverty line.

This year Kellow Construction was able to donate $12,000 worth of much needed and overdue work and materials for free to help their amazing facility.

Founded in 1988 by members of the Santa Barbara Community, Storyteller Children’s Center aims to ensure that all families, no matter their economic status or life circumstances, have access to the resources they need to build a healthy and happy future for their children. 

Today, Storyteller Children’s Center is a tuition-free preschool for children and families experiencing poverty, housing insecurity, and/or trauma. Storyteller Children’s Center provides high-quality early childhood education for children in order to break the cycle of poverty and trauma and ensure children are ready to enter school on par with their peers.

Operating from two campuses, Storyteller Children’s Centers goes beyond traditional preschool, providing trauma-informed high-quality early childhood education. Their holistic approach is essential in stabilizing families in crisis and helping children overcome early trauma.

Storyteller Children’s Center Families:

Storyteller Children’s Center supports over 80 children annually, ages 18 months to 5 years, and provides support services to their families. Many families are facing adverse challenges, including housing insecurity, which can negatively impact child development. Over half of children live in single-parent homes. Many families fall below the federal and state poverty guidelines, and Storyteller Children’s Center connects them to necessary resources. 

Storyteller Children’s Center Services:

  • Nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack daily

  • Health, vision, and dental screenings

  • Onsite counseling and case management

  • Kindergarten readiness program

  • Parent education classes and support

  • Family advocacy and referral services

  • Home visits
