What does “design build” mean?

Emily wrote a blog post on this, which you can read here. Essentially, it means that we work closely with our clients and their architects or designers to design projects that fit within their investment goals. Time and again, we see non-builder designers creating projects without monetary consideration. We often have to re-do plans, and sometimes we have to start completely from scratch after clients have spent far too much money and time on a design that was never within their investment goals. Bringing us into the process as early as possible can help you avoid this far too common scenario.

I am curious how much my concept will cost. Can you come over and do a site visit and give me an idea of cost?

Our process is a bit different from this model. The first step, 9 times out of 10, is to schedule a 15-20 minute video or phone call with us. You can schedule your initial consultation here.

On this call, we would discuss your project, desired timeline, investment range (and if you don’t have one, we can talk about that), and a bit about our process and how we operate.

We try to determine if we might be a good fit for the project and if our working styles align. If all parties want to move forward after this call, we would then set up a home consultation. We ask that all major decision-makers be present for home consultations and, if possible, for the call as well.

So you don’t come over until we talk on the phone?

Correct. We can usually determine if a client or a project is a good fit for our team and process pretty quickly, and typically, the feeling is mutual for the potential client as well.

What is the minimum budget you are able to take on with your current team?

Given how our company is currently set up, the minimum budget we can take on right now is $150,000. This number is subject to change depending on our workload.

I want to build an ADU. What is the minimum investment you can make work for an ADU?

Well, it really, really, really depends. It’s not possible for us to answer this question since there are so many variables that go into pricing an ADU such as site conditions, finish levels the client is seeking, customization, square footage, etc etc etc.  The first step in our process would be to book an intro call so we can get a better idea of where you are at in the process, and understand your goals, hopes and dreams for your ADU.

We are interviewing multiple contractors and gathering multiple bids. Can you come give us a bid?

We’d be happy to schedule a call to see if we might be a good contender for your project, and we’re grateful you are considering us.

Typically, we do not win jobs based on our estimates or contract prices. The projects that come to us are usually led by people who are drawn to high levels of integrity, organization, logistical strengths, service, and quality.

What do you specialize in?  

We specialize in residential remodels in the greater Santa Barbara area.

Do you work on condos?

It depends on the building, the HOA, the bylaws, and the community harmony or acrimony. If you can let us know what condo association you’re in, we can work with you to determine if it’s something we can help with.
